As a Defence Supply Chain Transformation Consultant, you will help Defence organisations modernise and optimise their end-to-end supply chain operations. Working across areas such as logistics, manufacturing, supportability, digital transformation, and systems integration, you will lead workstreams, engage with senior stakeholders, and deliver innovative solutions that improve operational readiness, resilience, and efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with Defence, supply chain, consulting, or systems architecture experience who enjoys solving complex challenges in a fast-paced environment.

Working Patterns and location – Hybrid, 2-3 days on site per week and UK wide travel as required.

 

Key responsibilities

·        Lead technical design and architecture of systems within complex Defence supply chain solutions.

·        Define system specifications, interface control documents, data models, and detailed technical designs.

·        Collaborate with solution architects, technical teams, and client stakeholders to ensure seamless system integration.

·        Assess existing client systems, identify technical gaps, and propose robust architectural improvements.

·        Manage project workstreams or smaller projects focused on system design, integration, and implementation.

·        Provide technical leadership and guidance to development and engineering teams during implementation.

·        Mentor junior team members and contribute to their professional development.

·        Build trusted client relationships, acting as a credible technical advisor on system design and integration.

Skills & experience

·        Proven experience in system architecture, design, and integration within complex enterprise environments.

·        Ability to translate high-level solution designs into detailed system architectures, component designs, and interface specifications.

·        Technical knowledge across ERP, COTS, bespoke applications, and data platforms including integration patterns such as APIs and message queues.

·        Strong understanding of system performance, scalability, security, and resilience principles.

·        Experience defining technical standards, governance, and assurance processes for system implementations.

·        Experience leading workstreams or small project teams focused on system design or technical implementation.

·        Clear communication skills — able to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·        Understanding of major challenges facing the Defence sector and how digital transformation can address them.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

·        Knowledge of Defence architectural frameworks such as MODAF or relevant industry standards.

·        Experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and containerisation within a system context.

·        Enterprise architecture certification such as TOGAF, or certifications in specific technical domains.

·        Experience with cybersecurity principles and secure system design.

·        Project and programme management experience, including production of project plans and delivery to strict timelines.

·        Experience contributing to technical sections of bid responses for transformation opportunities.
