Our client is looking for a Data Solution Engineer to design and deliver data pipelines and
platforms for Defence customers, handling both structured and unstructured data. You'll need
solid hands-on experience building data solutions in a UK Defence or Public Sector
environment, including cloud-based pipeline development. This is a great opportunity to work
on varied, technically challenging problems while also helping shape product development and
future capabilities.
Working Patterns and location – 3 Days a week
Key responsibilities
- Support Defence customers in developing data solutions aligned to their strategy.
- Design and build architectural views of data software and analytics solutions.
- Lead on data solution design within multi-disciplinary development teams.
- Drive technology choices from early-stage investigation through to large-scale implementation.
- Communicate data solutions clearly to both technical experts and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support Client Managers in a pre-sales capacity to develop solutions and grow relationships.
- Identify opportunities to develop internal IP within the target proposition space.
- Work across the full lifecycle including requirements capture, solution development, integration and operation.
Skills & experience
•Experience designing, implementing and integrating data solutions in UK Defence or
Public Sector.
•Proven experience building data pipelines in a cloud environment such as Azure, AWS
or GCP.
•Hands-on experience with data ingest, transformation and persistence technologies.
•Strong understanding of structured and unstructured data, including schemas,
ontologies and taxonomies.
•Experience with CI/CD techniques and the quality mechanisms that support them.
•Experience working within an Agile development framework.
•Degree-level qualification in a STEM subject or equivalent experience.
•Ability to communicate technical solutions effectively to a range of internal and external
stakeholders.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
•Knowledge of data schemas and exchange specifications used in Defence.
•Understanding of secure by design principles for data at rest and data in transit.
•Knowledge of data transport in DDIL environments and solutions for compute or
storage constrained systems.
•Familiarity with how data solutions feed into AI and ML applications.
•Scrum Master and/or Product Owner experience.
•Knowledge of commercial and contractual frameworks.
