Commercial Manager
Introduction
Our client works within Defence, Government, Critical National Infrastructure and Aerospace and are looking for a Commercial Manager to provide advice on and analysis of commercial risks in the business, commercial sales and procurement guidance.
The role is varied and includes managing a small team, reviewing, drafting and negotiating a range of contract paperwork and leading commercial governance process for bids. You will also need to have some experience in leading teams as this will be a proportion of your role.

This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days on site per week.
Key responsibilities
- Support the team with a wide range of commercial tasks within the Defence division.
- Lead and manage a small team of Commercial Officers and Managers, providing formal and informal support and development to team members.
- Contribute to the commercial strategy and hit the ground running influencing the success of the team.
- Review, negotiate and draft a range of agreements including prime and subcontracts, NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements and back-to-back subcontracts.
- Lead the commercial governance process for bids and tenders.
- Analyse and negotiate contract terms and conditions.
- Review and approve proposals, prime and sub-contracts.
- Work with internal resources to develop their understanding of commercial agreements.
- Provide commercial support to bid teams, including supporting the development of bids and tenders.
- Work with stakeholders to identify commercial risks, mitigation and management.
- Provide commercial support throughout contract delivery.
Skills & experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ commercial experience supporting either consulting/service contracts within Defence, Aerospace or Government.
- Experience negotiating sales/bid commercial contracts.
- A Law Degree would be ideal, otherwise a strong legal understanding is required.
- Detail focused with a passion for contracts and the ability to analyse, interpret and draft contractual wording.
- Experience of negotiating complex contracts such as NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, sub and prime contracts.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and ability to prioritise deadlines efficiently.
- Some leadership experience or a real interest in leadership.
