Introduction

Our client is looking for Commercial and Procurement Consultant with to support their Defence and Security clients with Government and Public Services Strategy & Transformation, solving complex and high-impact challenges.

You will provide commercial and procurement strategy expertise, support major national programmes, and deliver practical solutions that drive value, resilience, and long-term capability.

This role offers the opportunity to work across the full engagement lifecycle, from strategy and supplier engagement through to implementation.

Hybrid working, 2 - 4 days on site, but candidates must be prepared to travel UK wide if required.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver procurement and commercial strategies for Defence and Security clients, creating robust option sets to support informed decision-making across commercial structures, contract lotting, pricing and payment mechanisms, incentives, routes to market, and evaluation approaches.
  • Support the production of market-facing procurement and commercial documentation, including PQQs, ITN/ITPDs, Heads of Terms and contracts, ensuring compliance with public sector regulations and best practice.
  • Undertake rigorous analysis and insight generation to build a strong evidence base that informs solution design, business cases, and transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to commercial and contractual negotiations between public sector clients and suppliers, supporting the achievement of value for money and strategic outcomes.
  • Design and shape contract management operating models, helping clients establish the governance, capabilities, and processes required to realise intended value from commercial arrangements.
  • Work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary consulting teams, including Digital Strategy, Innovation, Cyber Security, and Data Analytics, to deliver integrated, end-to-end client solutions.
  • Demonstrate a continuous learning mindset, proactively developing expertise and sharing knowledge, insights, and best practice across the team.
Skills & experience
  • Proven experience in managing complex procurement environments, particularly within Defence or broader public sector settings, to achieve strategic objectives while ensuring best value for money.
  • Genuine motivation to create positive societal impact through a blend of strategic insight, practical problem-solving, and innovative thinking.
  • Solid understanding of applicable procurement laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and confidently.
  • Strong project management abilities, including delivering high-quality, compliant outputs within tight deadlines.
  • Capable of leading an independent workstream while contributing effectively to larger team initiatives.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic, uncertain, and fast-changing environments.
  • Collaborative team player who fosters inclusion and works effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining productive relationships to achieve shared goals.
