Working Patterns and location – Fully on site
Key responsibilities
· Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend software in Java and C++ within Linux environments.
· Lead technical design and implementation of software components, services, and APIs.
· Provide technical mentoring and leadership to junior and mid-level engineers.
· Conduct code reviews and enforce software engineering best practices across the team.
· Build, maintain, and improve RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed applications.
· Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices using tools such as GitLab and Jenkins.
· Containerise applications using Docker for scalable and efficient deployment.
· Collaborate with customers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Skills & experience
· 5+ years of commercial software development experience in Java and/or C++ within Linux environments.
· Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and object-oriented programming principles.
· Experience developing enterprise-scale backend applications, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
· Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and reactive programming frameworks such as Spring Reactive.
· Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
· Experience with containerisation technologies, particularly Docker.
· Strong knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git, Bitbucket, or GitLab.
· Experience working within Agile software development environments with strong problem-solving ability.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
· Experience with GitLab pipelines for automated build and deployment workflows.
· Familiarity with ElasticSearch and Kibana for log management and data visualisation.
· Knowledge of NoSQL database technologies such as MongoDB.
· Experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
· Familiarity with ScalaTest or other Scala-based testing frameworks.
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
