Our client is looking for an RF Design Engineer to join their team working on cutting-edge electronics for defence systems. You'll need solid hands-on RF design experience, including simulation, integration, and testing of RF and analogue circuits. This role combines technical depth with some project leadership, so the ability to mentor junior engineers and engage with stakeholders is important too. Apply now!
Working Patterns and location – Hybrid – 2 days on site per week
Key responsibilities
· Design, simulate, and implement RF and analogue circuits for defence and electromagnetic warfare projects.
· Carry out hands-on integration, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of RF systems and components.
· Prepare and maintain high-quality technical documentation including design specs, test plans, and results.
· Participate in design reviews and provide technical input to improve project outcomes.
· Support the Technical Lead with risk management, customer meetings, and stakeholder engagement.
· Mentor and provide feedback to junior engineers to support their professional development.
· Work with Project Managers, Systems Engineers, and Design Authorities to translate requirements into deliverables.
· Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and implement best practices across the team.
Skills & experience
· Proven experience in RF and analogue electronic circuit design and simulation.
· Hands-on experience using RF test equipment including spectrum analysers, vector network analysers, and signal generators.
· Experience developing RF performance models using tools such as Microwave Office.
· PCB circuit layout design experience, ideally using Altium.
· Experience designing RF systems for harsh environments covering EMC, vibration, and thermal considerations.
· Experience designing low SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost) RF solutions.
· Experience overseeing hardware transition into production, including environmental and qualification testing.
· Strong technical documentation skills including design specifications, test plans, and compliance evidence.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
· Design experience across frequencies from LF up to X Band.
· Experience designing Low Noise Amplifiers and RF receivers.
· Experience working with high-power amplifiers and performing Radiation Hazard Analysis.
· Experience preparing RF Level Plans.
· Knowledge of the defence business domain and familiarity with defence sector working practices.
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline.
