Introduction

Our client are a medium sized consultancy looking for a Platform Engineer to support on Defence and National Security projects.

 

Our client are looking for a hands-on platform / DevOps-style engineer who can build and support a secure cloud-based analytics environment used by Data Scientists in a government setting.

 

You will operate in a dynamic environment with varied and sometimes unfamiliar technical challenges, requiring strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a practical engineering mindset to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure solutions that enable data-driven outcomes for our client.

 

Working Patterns: This role is based full time on site in Gloucestershire.

Key responsibilities
  • Contribute to high-impact initiatives centred on cloud migration and modern data management, supporting the transition of legacy systems into scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-based environments.
  • Design and build robust, scalable, and secure systems, actively contributing across the full software development lifecycle — from initial requirements gathering and architectural design through to implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimisation.
  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of a new analytics hosting platform, ensuring it meets performance, reliability, and security standards while enabling advanced data processing and machine learning capabilities.
  • Diagnose and resolve defects within existing mission-critical analytics solutions, while also implementing enhancements and feature improvements to meet evolving operational needs.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support to MLOps engineers and Data Scientists, addressing highly variable and sometimes unpredictable technical requirements. This may involve working with unfamiliar technologies, requiring adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and a flexible, solutions-focused approach.
