Full Stack Software Engineer

Based in Gloucester, their engineering team is a mix of software engineers, data engineers, SREs and product specialists all working together on systems that operate in the most demanding environments imaginable. This is a collaborative, technically excellent team and they're growing — which is where you come in. To hit the ground running, you'll need solid hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot, a background in big data engineering including Hadoop and large-scale data pipelines, and a working knowledge of Ansible for infrastructure automation. GitLab for source control and CI/CD is a must, and you should be comfortable applying SRE principles to keep production services reliable and performant.

Working Patterns and location – Hybrid – 4-5 days on site per week

•        Design, develop, test and maintain scalable Java and Spring Boot applications and services.

•        Build and maintain big data processing solutions using Hadoop and related technologies.

•        Develop and maintain reliable, efficient data-processing pipelines at scale.

•        Automate application and infrastructure configuration and deployment using Ansible.

•        Apply SRE principles to improve reliability, availability and performance of production services.

•        Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve issues across applications and data platforms.

•        Participate in incident investigation, root-cause analysis and continuous service improvement.

•        Contribute to technical documentation, engineering standards and CI/CD activities via GitLab.

• Professional software development experience using Java.

•        Strong experience building applications and services with Spring Boot.

•        Hands-on experience with big data engineering, large-scale data pipelines and processing.

•        Practical experience with Hadoop or comparable distributed data-processing technologies.

•        Experience with Ansible or similar infrastructure and configuration automation tooling.

•       Experience using GitLab for source control, collaboration and CI/CD.

•        Understanding and practical application of SRE principles including monitoring and production support.

•        Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience working in multidisciplinary teams

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

•           Experience with Apache Pig or similar data-processing technologies.

•        Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.

•        Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes for containerisation and orchestration.

•        Experience with monitoring, logging and observability platforms.

•        Experience designing and operating highly available distributed systems.

•        Experience working in an Agile or Scrum delivery environment.
