Our client is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join their Cyber business unit working on cutting-edge cryptographic and defence technology solutions. You'll need strong embedded software development skills across languages like C/C++, Rust or Python, with experience in areas such as Embedded Linux, bare-metal MCU or FPGA development. This role requires willingness to obtain SC and DV security clearance.

Key responsibilities
· Develop embedded software and firmware solutions for complex defence and cyber systems.
· Contribute across the full development lifecycle from research and ideation to product delivery.
· Build and test prototypes to de-risk new technologies and innovative concepts.
· Write embedded software in C/C++, Rust or Python for bare-metal and Linux-based platforms.
· Collaborate within a small multi-disciplined team to solve complex customer problems.
· Research and exploit the latest developments in physics and technology for national interest applications.
· Maintain compliance with security protocols and Government information security regulations.
· Support FPGA development and digital signal processing work where applicable.
Skills & experience
· Embedded software development experience in C/C++, Rust or Python.
· Hands-on experience with Embedded Linux development and integration.
· Experience developing firmware for bare-metal microcontroller (MCU) platforms.
· Exposure to AI and ML techniques applied in embedded or low-level environments.
· Appreciation of hardware engineering principles and RF technologies.
· Ability to research new technologies and translate ideas into working solutions.
· Willingness and eligibility to obtain SC and DV security clearance.
· Degree in engineering, mathematics, science or equivalent demonstrable experience.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
· Full stack embedded software experience from device drivers through to GUIs and web applications.
· FPGA development experience using Vivado, Vitis and Modelsim, including digital signal processing.
· Electronic design skills including schematic capture, PCB design and mechanical design.
· Experience with radio technologies including Software Defined Radios, GNU Radio or RFNoC.
· Ability to define and architect solutions to ambiguous or novel customer problems.
· Experience managing information security in line with Government security regulations.
