Our client is looking for a DevOps Architect and Subject Matter Expert to lead the design, build, and assurance of DevOps tooling platforms within secure, air-gapped environments. Working Patterns and location – Fully on site

·        Lead architecture, design, and implementation of DevOps tooling platforms including GitLab, Jira, Confluence, and Ansible.

·        Design and deliver integrated DevOps ecosystems within offline, air-gapped environments.

·        Define and implement toolchain integration patterns across development, build, and deployment stages.

·        Develop secure mechanisms for software promotion, patching, updates, and plugin management in disconnected environments.

·        Ensure all solutions comply with MOD security standards and accreditation requirements.

·        Conduct technical assurance activities including design reviews, compliance checks, and security assessments.

·        Produce and maintain formal design documentation including HLDs, LLDs, SOPs, and runbooks.

·        Engage with stakeholders across delivery, security, and operational teams on customer sites.

·        Proven experience as a DevOps Architect or senior SME within secure or regulated environments.

·        Hands-on experience designing and supporting GitLab CI/CD pipelines, repositories, and security controls.

·        Practical experience with Ansible for automation, configuration management, and orchestration.

·        Strong experience working within offline or air-gapped environments including secure tooling installation and patch management.

·        Experience designing secure DevOps pipelines with access control, build management, and change traceability.

·        Working knowledge of MOD and UK Government security standards including JSP 440, JSP 604, and NCSC guidance.

·        Ability to produce formal technical documentation including HLDs, LLDs, security architecture docs, and runbooks.

·        Strong scripting and automation skills across Bash, Python, and Ansible YAML.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

·        Previous experience working within the Defence and/or Aerospace sector.

·        Familiarity with classified or high-assurance IT environments.

·        Experience delivering DevOps capabilities on restricted or disconnected networks.

·        Understanding of MOD delivery frameworks and operational structures.
