Training Technical Lead

Introduction

Our client is a prime contractor and major supplier to the U.K. Ministry of Defence and has developed strong capabilities in mission systems integration in defence, national security, and commercial markets. They are looking for a strong Technical Lead to sit across their training business. Our client is looking for a Lead who has ideally got simulation, AI, Virtual or gaming experience paired with an in-depth knowledge of technical training solutions. Analysing, designing, developing and evaluating existing training programmes will also be part of your role, demonstrable experience of this life cycle will be advantageous as well as being solutions orientated.

The Role:

  • As Technical Lead, you will be accountable for the technology roadmaps, all technical aspects of internally funded projects and provide technical oversight and assistance as necessary to all inflight programmes.
  • Core to your duties will be developing the overall capability and capacity, as we grow the business.
  • Experience in the development of complex training solutions using modern, leading-edge solutions, methods and tools, with the ability to use “make versus buy” trade-offs.
Key responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Head of Engineering, and the Business Lead for all aspects of engineering, product and services development activity across the business.
  • Act as the principal focus for all technology related activities at both the tactical and strategic level across the business.
  • Create and maintain the technology, product, and services road maps for maximum business benefit.
  • Create in conjunction with other stakeholders the necessary engineering and training investment plans to support the road maps.
  • Represent the business as the technical expert with external stakeholders within the Training ecosystem (Customers, Suppliers, Partners, Universities).
  • Co-ordinate research and development activities that enhances capabilities, bids and de-risks programme execution within agreed investment plans.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and capabilities against readiness levels and enable the team to be the first to exploit within new or existing products and services.
  • Assist generating and protecting intellectual property (IP) by proposing ideas and supporting protection by methods such as patents, trade secrets and copyright.
  • Support the technical reviews for all programmes within the team.
  • Play an active role within the CTO / Technical Lead community, promoting the sharing of ideas across business lines and encouraging IP generation and knowledge transfer.
  • Provide input to goal setting and appraisals for the technical team.
Skills & experience
  • Technical leadership experience, including but not limited to the following:
  • Demonstrated competency for strategic thinking and thought leadership with strong relationship management with customers, suppliers and industry bodies.
  • Successfully developed and implemented training solutions in established and new environments using new and emerging training technologies.
  • Ability to articulate clearly and succinctly, technically complex training solutions orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of individual and collective training using leading edge training technologies and techniques for the analysis, design / development, and evaluation.
  • Extensive experience in delivery of programmes across training and engineering disciplines.
  • Coaching / Mentoring of technical teams and individuals
  • Strong people and influencing skills that can be applied across all levels in the business Customers, Collaborators, and industry partners.
  • Proven ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team.
  • Must be willing and eligible to hold SC security clearance and possibly obtain DV clearance if required.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • Experience in Military or Commercial Training
  • Experience in live, virtual, constructive, and gaming (LVC-G) training and simulation systems.
  • Political and customer / stakeholder relationships within UK / US defence / commercial industry.
  • Experience managing in a complex International Logistics and Licencing environment.
  • Member of a relevant Engineering / Training Professional Institution
