Our client is a Technical Consultancy who supports clients within Government and Defence, and they are looking for a Technical Author to support their growing technical teams.
You will be creating, updating and maintaining accurate and effective documentation of technical processes, particularly in areas such as office relocations, datacentre projects, and IT infrastructure changes, so experience in a technical environment is essential.
Working Patterns: This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week on site and 2 from home. This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive documentation for technical projects.
- Collaborate with IT, facilities, and project management teams to capture and translate technical requirements.
- Liaise with vendors, external partners, and internal stakeholders to gather technical details.
- Produce manuals, technical guides, standard operating procedures, and process workflows.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with industry standards, internal policies, and compliance requirements.
- Track and maintain documentation changes, ensuring they remain up-to-date.
- Assist in the creation of training materials and knowledge base content.
- Support business continuity planning by documenting disaster recovery and backup processes.
Skills & experience
- Proven experience as a Technical Author or a Technical Writer within a technology-focused environment.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, data centres, and office relocation projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into user-friendly content.
- Proficiency in documentation tools such as Confluence, MadCap Flare, MS Word, or equivalent.
- Experience working within an Agile or ITIL framework is desirable.
- Knowledge of compliance and security best practices in IT documentation.
