Introduction

Our client is a large consultancy in the UK and are particularly successful working on MoD, Government and Public Sector contracts within Architecture, Digital Transformation, Business Change, Analytics and Systems Engineering.

This particular role is looking for someone to focus on Digital Transformation within the Defence Sector, primarily on UX and UI, Software, Service Design strategies.

Key responsibilities

The ideal candidate would be from a technology background with defence credentials, or from defence with very strong digital transformation and technology understanding. You should be comfortable translating current and future technology trends and how they impact current defence assumptions and programmes. A key ability will be to balance between technical capability and user empathy.

The Technical Director will have responsibility for:

  • Leading a range of projects and programmes; complete project planning and budgeting; define deliverable structure and content; facilitate buy-in of proposed solutions from top management levels at the client; direct on-time, quality delivery of work products; manage engagement economics; manage engagement risk; manage diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
  • Manage day-to-day interactions with executive clients and sponsors; working with senior partners develop and foster relationships with key clients.
  • Originating and leading sales and developing our propositions (including new propositions); develop and maintain contact with top decision makers at key clients; participate and lead proposals.
  • Develop solutions and methodologies; develop thought leadership and point-of-view documents; participate in public speaking and industry events.
  • Perform role of counsellor and coach; provide input and guidance into the staffing process; actively participate in staff recruitment and retention activities; provide leadership and support delivery teams and staff in local offices.
Skills & experience
  • A background in running teams of Software, UX and UI Engineers and setting their technical strategy.
  • Experience in a Consulting or heavily Customer facing role.
  • Defence awareness either working directly or in support of UK MOD.
  • Technology awareness either working directly or in support of Tech Industry.
  • Specific awareness around cloud, AI, data, analysis and disruptive digital technologies.
  • Defence-related awareness and empathy around digital transformation, adoption, information advantage.
  • Business development credentials within the defence or technology sector.
  • Able to form and hold senior relationships across Defence sector.
  • Team leadership of senior individuals.
  • Experience of agile and start-up approaches.
