The company is a specialist engineering and technology organisation that delivers advanced solutions across defence, national security, and intelligence environments. The Technical Author role focuses on creating, reviewing, and maintaining clear and compliant technical documentation for complex systems, working closely with engineers, customers, and internal stakeholders. The position supports products throughout their full life cycle, ensuring documentation meets required standards and enables users to operate, maintain, and support systems safely and effectively.
Working Patterns: 2-3 days onsite hybrid
Key responsibilities
- Own and produce a wide range of technical publications, including user and maintenance manuals, procedures, guides, training materials, safety notices, and technical specifications
- Create and maintain Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and through-life support documentation for use by external customers
- Develop and manage regulatory, safety, and compliance documentation to required standards
- Contribute technical written content to bids, tenders, and quotations to support business development
- Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to align documentation with customer needs, improve processes, and represent the organisation professionally
Skills & experience
- Proven experience working in a Technical Author or Technical Writer position
- Familiarity with defence documentation standards such as JSPs and S1000D
- Ability to write clear, concise content using Simple Technical English principles
- Experience applying through-life and supportability standards, including relevant DEF STANs, MIL standards, and Knowledge in Defence (KiD) guidance
- Working knowledge of ITIL frameworks (version 3 or 4)
