Submarine Safety Engineer

Introduction

Our large defence client is looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to lead on product safety management for nuclear submarines, including hazard identification, design change and certification of submarines.

Ideally you will have experience working on submarines, however, our client will consider candidates with defence, nuclear, maritime, air or land experience.

This is a hybrid role with 2 days on site at your local office per week. Once or twice a month you will also be required to travel to Bristol.

Key responsibilities
  • Leading on safety management.
  • Hazard identification.
  • Certification of submarines.
  • Design change.
  • Fire assessments.
  • Working embedded within a client site.
  • Production and technical assurance of safety documentation of high technical complexity.
  • Mentoring and technical development of safety engineers.
Skills & experience
  • Category A1 / A2 / B operating experience.
  • In-depth understanding of submarine systems / engineering principles.
  • Strong safety management experience.
  • Experience working in at least one of these domains: nuclear, rail, air, maritime, land, defence.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership.
  • Safety and Environmental Management Training (SEMT) or similar.
  • Project management experience.
