Are you a Subcontract Manager within the defences sector and looking for your next exciting role?

My client is a leading prime contractor within the defence industry, and they are currently managing and bidding for a wide portfolio of high-profile technology programmes. They are frontrunners for providing systems engineering, software development and complex programme management for global security, cyber, civil, and commercial markets. They are looking to grow on their advanced platforms, weapons and C4ISR capabilities that supply directly into the UK MOD and Military.

They are looking for a Subcontract Manager to oversee the development of subcontract services across my client’s portfolio of programmes. They will need to have experience on subcontract specifications, work statements and the Terms & Conditions for the procurement of specialised materials, equipment, and services for subcontracts

My client is open to candidates who are looking for hybrid working opportunities, but they expect candidates to be based onsite in their Hampshire office. You will also need to hold an active SC or DV clearance for this position due to the nature of the work.

Key responsibilities
  • Have an understanding across the full lifecycle of a subcontract, including the following;
    • Preparation of bid packages
    • participating in bidders' conferences
    • developing evaluation criteria
    • analysing and evaluating proposals
    • selecting or recommending subcontractors
    • writing subcontract packages for reviews
    • assisting with preparing awards and administering results to subcontracts.
  • Assists with coordinating additions, deletions, or modifications to subcontracts.
  • Participates with contracts administration and purchasing to develop subcontract policies and procedures


Skills & experience
  • Subcontract management experience within an MOD environment
  • Experience of Negotiating and managing complex international supplier’s relationships.
  • Ability to oversee and control scope using change control processes
  • Experience of creating schedules and managing internal parties to the schedule
  • Risk and Opportunity management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task (position will include program execution and proposal support efforts) across multiple programs/platforms.
  • Commercial awareness

    The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • Experience from with the Ministry of Defence or another Public / Government Body.
