Sub-Contract Programme Manager

Introduction

This is a key commercial role helping to deliver a major change and transformation to a defence organisations training systems including how that training is delivered. You will be part of a global organisation who supply a variety of services to the UK defence industry.

You will be managing various subcontracts & suppliers who will be delivering elements of this training.

Deep knowledge of subcontract management and contract negotiation is required as well as great stakeholder management experience.

We are looking for a mission driven manager and leader who can drive this change and work with the supplier to deliver a top-level service.

Working Patterns: This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week on site and a half day every Friday.

Key responsibilities
  • Own and manage £50–£100m supplier contracts with limited supervision, ensuring delivery aligns with business and programme objectives.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for the subcontract, providing informed input into planning, budgeting, forecasting, and key decision-making.
  • Identify, analyse, and resolve supply chain issues, using experience and data to drive timely and effective solutions.
  • Lead the negotiation and management of contracts, including NDAs, commercial terms, and conditions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, systems, and ways of working across internal teams and external suppliers to enhance performance.
  • Provide leadership and support to junior team members, reviewing outputs and actively developing capability within the team.
Skills & experience
  • Degree qualified in STEM or Business (or equivalent practical experience), with a strong background in subcontract and supplier management.
  • Demonstrable experience in supplier performance management and delivering complex contractual commitments.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, solve complex problems, and influence stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communicator with experience working in matrixed and military/industry environments.
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC) and focused on delivery and operational results.
