Solution Architect

Introduction

This is a hybrid role with your base location being once of the clients’ offices which are based across the whole of the UK. You will be required to get an SC clearance if successful. If you do not hold an active SC clearance, please familiarise yourself with the vetting process before applying.

As a Senior Solution Architect working within our Client’s Data and Information Services Team you will be leading the development of strategic requirements, through the full solution lifecycle to create digital offerings to a number of different clients, on a range of different projects. Through close client engagement and involvement in their internal product development and delivery teams you will develop strategic integrated, secure solutions and act as the technical lead to ensure these are delivered.

You will also lead and develop a team of solution architects with specialist domain knowledge and foster collaborative working with other digital delivery groups within the organisation, including their Global Technology Centre.  As their senior lead, you will have responsibility for ensuring that their solutions and advice embody relevant external and internal technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security).

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting bid and proposal work where solution architecture capabilities are required – acting as technical SME.
  • Developing and leading a dedicated team of solution architects to cover the full scope of client needs – across Design, Construction, Operations and Maintenance, using the most appropriate technology for each situation and following re-usable patterns for development and deployment.
  • Taking a lead in client engagement to develop applications and data solutions to deliver value with our clients, whether in a “green field” environment or by integrating existing technologies with news capabilities.
  • Delivering technical solutions – managing a team of consultants or working independently.
  • Participate in developing productive working relationships with our key technology partners.
  • Assisting in developing appropriate commercial models for deploying solutions to clients (e.g. SaaS, PaaS, On Premise).
Skills & experience
  • Experience shaping solutions in one or more of our key heavy infrastructure domains (e.g. Highways, Rail Utilities, Oil & Gas, Highways).
  • Experience shaping solution in Design and Construction and/or Operations and Maintenance phases of the lifecycle, with demonstrable understanding of the solution stacks which are appropriate in these phases.
  • Experience of establishing solution requirements to meet client needs and advising on applications and data strategy and architecture.
  • Hands on experience of leading and developing teams of solution architects in the Heavy Infrastructure industries.
  • Good understanding of cloud architectures and patterns (IaaS, PaaS, Serverless, Microservices).
  • Demonstrable experience of designing cloud-based solutions to support analytics, machine learning/AI and big data platforms.
  • Demonstrable experience and familiarity with architecture methods (e.g. TOGAF) and architecture management tools.
  • Proven track record of adopting Agile methodologies to effectively manage the development of iterative solutions.
  • Experience in providing programme architecture advice and guidance to integrated teams covering all capabilities to realise complex cloud-solutions.
  • Understanding of relevant ITIL processes (Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Management).
  • Practical experience of software development and integration using current technology stacks and COTS products.
