Senior Mechanical Engineer

Our client supports the Defence and Nuclear sectors by providing Mechanical Design expertise!

They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to technical lead across facilities and equipment design projects, as well as ensuring delivery and leading/mentoring other engineers.

The ideal candidate will have worked in Nuclear/Defence or a safety critical industry before, and be excited about the developments in the Nuclear industry at the moment and want to make a difference!

Working Patterns: This role is based in Bristol or Birmingham on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 3 days on site per week.

• Lead Mechanical projects, covering small pieces of work to multi-million pound designs of equipment for facilities.
• Work across the full design lifecycle, including undertaking requirements capture, concept generation, development and down-selection.
• Lead the creation of optimal design solutions to address client requirements.
• Produce substantiation calculations and justifications to demonstrate design performance against requirements.
• Author and update technical documents.
• Manage your projects' delivery against time, cost and quality requirements.
• Support our quality assurance process through review or checking of colleagues’ work.
• Present your work to clients at formal reviews.
• Work within project teams, these may include placements at clients’ sites.
• Lead teams and mentor junior engineers.

• Between 6 – 10 years’ experience within Mechanical Engineering, leading projects/teams within Defence or Nuclear.
• Sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their application to varied projects and domains.
• Strong understanding of Project Engineering with great experience in design and design codes.
• Highly proficient in CAD (Autodesk or Solidworks ideally)
• Chartership with a relevant engineering institution or be progressing towards obtaining this.
• Previous experience working within Nuclear, MOD or UK Armed Forces.
• Experience in the production of design documentation, including calculations, reports, specifications and requirements capture documents.
• Experience of leading teams to deliver mechanical engineering design projects.
• Experience using Inventor or NX (or similar).
