Our client designs and modifies Mechanical structures for Rotary wing aircrafts. They are lucky enough to be on site where some of the helicopters fly from, so you would be able to see some of the aircraft in service!

This role is looking for someone with hands on design experience within aircraft and specifically within mechanical structures.

You will be responsible for a small team, and act as the Design signatory for the team, so extensive design experience is essential!

This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days on site per week.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage a small mechanical design engineering team in the production of part, assembly and installation drawing.
  • Act as the design signatory and ensure compliance with the Design Office Handbook and Certification Basis e.g., CS-27, CS-29 etc.
  • Be accountable for the checking and compliance verification of design data produced within the Design Organisation.
  • Support the development and evolution of processes and procedures relating to mechanical design.
  • Be the focal point for the production and installation engineers in matters relating to mechanical/structural design.
  • Create and contribute to customer facing design reviews throughout the design life-cycle.
  • Manage and execute detailed aircraft surveys during quotation and delivery stages.
Skills & experience
  • Previous experience working within an Aerospace Design Office as a Structures (Panel 3) check signatory and CVE or be able to evidence significant progress towards this.
  • Proven record of creating conceptual structures / mechanical designs.
  • Ideally experience with rotary wing aircraft, although they are happy to consider fixed wing experience.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to select, appropriate mechanical/structural techniques and solutions for aerospace applications e.g. material selection, corrosion protection, fuselage hardpoint interfaces, cabin structures.
  • Knowledge of current and future aerospace structural manufacturing processes.
  • Experience leading people and/or projects in a complex engineering environment.
