Introduction

My client is an industry leader in all aspects of IT, computer network operations, cyber security and defence is at the forefront of the challenge to find innovative solutions that can effectively defend networks and offer protection across the entire cyber and defence domain. They are currently transforming the defence and national security capabilities for the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the British Army and wider UK Government.

My client is looking for a Project Manager to manage a portfolio of projects across all phases of the lifecycle. These projects will be associated with the production and full project lifecycle of a Platform Management System, that will be integrated onto numerous Naval vessels and defence maritime projects. You will be responsible for managing the project delivery as well as developing strategy, plans and business cases, in conjunction with the engineering team.

My client is open to candidates who are looking for hybrid working opportunities, but they expect candidates to be based in their South London or Cumbria site for 2 to 3 days per week. My client will also be open to putting candidates through the security clearance process prior to starting and will help in every step along the way, however having an active security clearance would be ideal prior to starting. Key responsibilities
  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
  • Support the Senior Project Manager & Programme Manager to manage project relationships, including partners, suppliers, and beneficiaries, in line with agreements, supplier code of conduct and best practice stakeholder management and contract management. These relationships will be managed through effective collaboration across the stakeholder community to ensure delivery objectives are meet.
  • To launch, organise, plan, document and effectively manage the execution and conclusion of all allocated projects to deliver on our commitments within baselined schedule and budget.
  • Implement, maintain and manage all elements of project management including value, scope, quality, procurement, time, finance, human resource, risk, opportunities and communications.
  • Actively manage both Risk and Opportunities to achieve the best Business outcome.
  • Report performance of projects, engaging all Project stakeholders ensuring strong communications are established and maintained.
  • Lead critical business improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements such as Safety and Security.
  • Provide robust leadership to drive team performance, competence and talent, and be a mentor and role model.
  • Define, establish, manage and lead a high performing and successful integrated Project organisation.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, handle changes through managing the customer’s expectations together with the requirements for the Project.
  • Work with the Supply Chain team to ensure that all sub-suppliers are fully engaged and managed to deliver their requirements within allocated budget and schedule.
  • Effectively manage technical teams and provide clear leadership and direction to mixed work streams, involving both clients and/or additional third parties to deliver the project collaboratively.
  • Maximise the efficient allocation of resources and skills across the assigned portfolio.
  • Develop future capability though supporting recruitment, coaching, mentoring & competency-based development.
  • Understand the impact of change on delivery plans and manage change control tightly.

 

Skills & experience
  • Strong experience across a full project lifecycle, starting from the conception and procurement stage, through to the delivery of the project.
  • Strong experience working toward either a waterfall or agile methodology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to engage and manage all internal or external suppliers, customers/clients and stakeholders effectively
  • Flexible and responsive to changing priorities
  • Proficient user of MS office and competent in PowerPoint and Presentation skills

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • PMP, Prince 2 or equivalent qualification
  • Prior experience working within the Maritime / Defence Industry
  • Earned Value Management application experience
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Prior experience working on Safety Critical Systems
  • Prior experience working on Platform Management Systems
  • PM tool, e.g. Primavera
