Introduction

My client is an industry leader in all aspects of IT, computer network operations, cyber security and defense is at the forefront of the challenge to find innovative solutions that can effectively defend networks and offer protection across the entire cyber and defense domain. In the company’s UK Command and Control business, they assist their customers by providing C4ISR solutions that support critical decision making in highly dynamic and complex environments.

Within this role, you will be a key member of the Hardware Engineering team where you will work to manage the successful manufacture of control systems within the Defence industry. The role is ideal for an experienced Production Engineer with a background in, or working knowledge of, Electrical Engineering to grow my clients Production Engineering capabilities. Ideally, an understanding of electrical systems and components on a variety of Defence programmes from a manufacturing perspective is preferred.

The key tasks will be to visit external supplier sites and work closely with those suppliers to ensure their production activities are managed to meet appropriate procedures, to defined standards and to timescales to meet programme objectives.

My client is open to candidates who are looking for hybrid working opportunities, but they expect candidates to be based in their South London site for 2 days per week. Key responsibilities
  • Follow company and programme specific processes and procedures to enable successful manufacture
  • Liaise between internal design teams, external customers, quality teams and production suppliers
  • Review and sign off control system designs for manufacturability, ideally from an electrical engineering perspective
  • Control change management in the event of customer, supplier, or internal design changes throughout production phases
  • Ability to diagnose problems and make key stop/go decisions, ideally from an electrical perspective
  • To provide cost and schedule estimates through impact assessments driven by change
  • Generate progress reports and key performance indicators between our suppliers and our customers
  • Generate documentation in accordance with company and customer procedures or deliverables
  • To inspect electrical wiring and assembly in a quality assured environment, using electrical drawings, wiring schedules and schematics
  • Provide piece part and product preparation (e.g. for quality inspection, testing and qualification purposes)
  • Ensure manufacturing times are met with involvement in the estimation to complete activities
  • Check and complete all paperwork associated with the manufacturing data pack
  • Ensure compliance with all associated procedures applicable to the manufacturing process

 

Skills & experience
  • Adept at problem-solving, able to develop solutions to a variety of problems
  • Adept at workload management and prioritising appropriately to meet deadlines
  • Flexible and responsive to changing priorities
  • Able to engage effectively with all customers, clients, and stakeholders
  • Able to develop solutions to a variety of problems
  • Able to support the design engineers throughout the design and development phases
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Defence programmes would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Electrical safety testing experience is desirable
  • Understanding and working knowledge of electrical build standards is desirable
  • Understanding of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control systems is desirable
  • An IPC certified is desirable
