Principal Safety Software Engineer

Introduction

Our client is working within Energy, Infrastructure and Defence to support their clients with the development of safety critical software.

 

You will work across a wide range of projects, providing assurance through the creation of safety and certification artefacts.

 

This would suit someone with experience with the application of safety standards and/or development of embedded software in a safety/mission critical environment.

 

This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week on site with clients or in the office in either Glasgow, Surrey or Bristol.

Key responsibilities
  • Work with clients to design, develop and verify safety-critical software systems and programmable systems.
  • Deliver embedded control and/or architecture/software projects in a regulated or safety related industry.
  • Gather requirements from clients to understand what they require.
  • Assess compliance against regulations and standards.
  • Develop embedded systems/platforms, robotics, real-time controls or similar applications.
Skills & experience
  • An understanding of the software engineering lifecycle when applied to safety, ideally within Infrastructure, Energy, Nuclear, Nuclear or Defence.
  • Knowledge and experience of safety assessment and evaluation techniques.
  • An awareness of standards such as Def-Stan 00-055, IEC 61508, DO-178B/C, DO-254, DO-326A.
  • Ability to understand client requirements and certification challenges.
  • Experience of software assurance, static analysis, statistical testing or formal methods.
  • Experience of the development of novel embedded systems/platforms.
  • Awareness of robotics, real-time controls, or similar.
  • Understanding of system operational vulnerabilities.
  • Experience of modelling and simulation tools, e.g. SCADE, MATLAB, Simulink, Veristand, LabVIEW.
  • Working knowledge of LDRA Analysis and Verification tool suite.
