Principal Defence Consultant

• We are seeking a Principal Consultant for our client who is an SME working within the Defence sector and has a great track record of delivering IT strategies and transformation projects within the MOD. This role will be pivotal in moulding digital initiatives across the sector. Utilising your network and business development skills to help their clients grow.
• You as a leader will be responsible in mentoring junior consultants and driving BD development through the companies relationships.

Working Patterns: This is a hybrid role with 2 days on site per week. Travel will be expected UK wide to client sites.

• Lead and deliver high-impact IT consultancy assignments across MOD departments.
• Strategic guide on enterprise IT transformation, digital roadmaps, and secure infrastructure.
• Leverage on established networks to identify and secure new opportunities.
• Drive through leadership in defence digital transformation.
• Working closely with internal departments to assist in the growth and development of the organisation and mentoring of junior consultants within the firm.
• Work closely with clients to design, scope, and implement IT and digital strategies.
• Manage client workshops and deliver presentations to senior leadership team and stakeholders.
• Oversee project delivery, ensuring budget, time and quality are all within limits.

While you won't be expected to have every skill listed, key requirements include:

• 10+ years of experience working in partnership with the UK MOD.
• Proven knowledge of the Ministry of Defence IT landscape, including current programmes, organisations, and policies.
• Proven experience in IT transformation, enterprise architecture, or programme management.
• Demonstrable understanding of secure, classified networks, cloud solutions, and relevant industry standards.
• An established network across Ministry of Defence organisations, including key stakeholders in Defence Digital, DE&S, and frontline commands.
• Strong business development experience – identifying, bidding for, and winning new consultancy work.
• Proven senior leadership/stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across all levels.
• Professional certificate (PRINCE2, TOGAF, MSP, ITIL) preferred.
