Principal Cable Designer
Introduction
Hybrid working patterns with 2-3 days per week working on site or on client sites.
This is an exciting opportunity to work for a large engineering consultancy on a wide range of multi-disciplinary projects for their client base within the energy sector!
As a HV Cable Designer you’ll be working on both onshore and offshore power projects, creating concept designs for high-voltage cables ensuring they meet relevant standards, and delivering projects to a high standard for external clients.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver multi-disciplinary projects to a high standard.
- Provide concept design, front-end engineering design (FEED), feasibility studies, and detailed design projects and proposals for clients.
- Ensuring that project requirements are met to scope, budget, and timescale restraints.
- Create or assess the high voltage (HV) cable components of various projects, including onshore cable projects, offshore export cables, and interconnectors.
- Working as part of the tender team to meet strict timescales for bids and tender delivery.
- Attending design and hazard review meetings.
- Creating HV design packages for clients.
- Participate in site visits, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning as necessary.
Skills & experience
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications and experience.
- Chartered Engineer through the IET is desirable.
- Proficiency in designing, manufacturing, and HV cables for applications in both onshore and offshore HVAC and HVDC projects.
- Expertise in HV cable system design and ratings using CYMCAP.
- Familiarity with IEC cable standards, CIGRE technical policies, and associated technical specifications and documentation.
- Experience working on large, technically complex cable projects.
- Experience of Working Groups and Technical committees such as CIGRE and IEEE.
