Nuclear Process Engineer
Introduction
Our client is looking a Principal Process Safety Engineer to work on Nuclear projects including new nuclear power station design, developing fusion technologies, or implementing new nuclear waste management processes.
You'll be creating safe and resilient systems across nuclear power, renewables, decarbonisation, new builds and energy as they work towards NetZero so experience within a similar environment is imperative!
This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week on site.
Key responsibilities
- The Principal Engineer will ensure that multidisciplinary designs are safe.
- Ensure that requirements are properly identified and managed, and risks are minimised.
- Support the delivery of projects on behalf of clients, within the Nuclear New Build market.
- Project also may cover Decommissioning and Disposal, Net Zero, and Defence and Generation projects.
- Cover every stage of a project life cycle from feasibility to commissioning.
- Deliver and lead hazard workshops.
- Perform risk assessments to establish severity of hazards including fire and explosions.
- Manage and support multi-disciplinary teams helping to deliver complex projects.
- Take the lead on challenging process safety-related project issues by supervising and guiding the delivery of high-quality technical safety activities.
- Perform inherent safety assessments and lead successful close-out of resulting actions.
- Provide assistance on proposals and bids for future projects.
Skills & experience
- They are looking for someone with prior experience in performing and supervising process safety activities within a Nuclear environment.
- Experience leading hazard workshops such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, bowtie analysis and ALARP demonstration.
- Demonstrable experience in using consequence analysis to establish the severity of hazards including fire, toxics, and explosions.
- Experience performing DSEAR risk assessments.
- Passionate about providing safety leadership and improving processes and procedures.
- Strong understanding of Relevant Good Practice, including UK Legislation and Codes of Practice.
- Proven knowledge of legislative requirements such as COMAH, DSEAR, PE(S)R, ATEX.
