Network Engineer

Introduction

The Network Engineer position is a hands-on role to manage, monitor and support the network infrastructure and services. Working within the Network Operations Team you will provide support with resolving incidents, implementing customer requests, delivering on projects, proposing service improvements, and mentoring more junior members of the team

This role will suit an individual who has experience within a 2nd or 3rd line support environment and has proven experience troubleshooting network related issues within a large organization. While they are expected to have a minimum of CCNP certification it is equally important that they have a passion for networking.

Key responsibilities
  • Respond quickly and effectively to network issues, incidents, and outages.
  • Resolving up to 3rd line network related incident support calls.
  • Provide mentoring to develop more junior members of the team.
  • Evaluating network change requests.
  • Perform system maintenance and upgrade tasks.
  • Use and configure network monitoring tools to identify and address issues before service degradation occurs.
  • Maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, processes, and procedures.
  • Action tickets in the Network Operations Team’s queues in accordance with company-defined best practice.
  • Participate in 24 x 7 out-of-hours rota as required.
  • Delivery of BAU project work and user requests.
  • Evaluating network performance issues.
  • Keep abreast of developments in networking and network monitoring.
  • Identifying opportunities for service improvement via automation or procedural change.
Skills & experience

To be successful in this role we would expect you to have in-depth industry experience with:

  • Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switching technologies.
  • Cisco ASR and ISR routing platforms.
  • BGP and OSPF.
  • Wireless LAN technologies.
  • Working within a helpdesk / support environment, dealing with customer issues through to resolution.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of monitoring & reporting systems.
  • Valid UK Driving license.

You must also be able to demonstrate hands-on experience with:

  • WAN optimization technologies.
  • Quality of Service functionality.
  • SD-WAN technologies

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • Extreme wireless platforms.
  • Riverbed Steel Connect.
  • Riverbed Steelhead.
  • Thousand Eyes.
  • Cisco ISE.
  • Microsoft NPS.
