Mission Critical Software Engineer

Introduction

Our client supports the Defence and Nuclear industry with the design and development of Safety Critical Software.

The team ensures that software systems and programmable systems can overcome technical challenges and meet engineering standards and regulatory requirements, so it essential that you have experience with software in a safety/mission critical environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer and leader to challenge themselves across niche projects, and large programmes across a variety of industries!

This is a hybrid role with 1-2 days on site per week.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to safety-critical software teams which includes setting direction to consultancy and engineering services.
  • Provide advice, support and delivering for projects for a range of clients in industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Rail and Aerospace.
  • Advise clients how to develop and verify safety-critical software systems and programmable systems.
  • Ensure that systems meet engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor junior staff and support their career development.
Skills & experience
  • Chartered status or be working towards this (our client will support Chartership)
  • Knowledge of design, development and test of real-time, embedded software, particularly in a safety-critical context.
  • Experience of applying standards such as IECs 61508, 60880, 50128, 62061, 61513 or 61226; ARP4754; DEF-STANs 00-55 or 00-56; or DO-178C.
  • Experience of developing and / or assuring Software, Programmable Logic Devices (PLD) and Complex Electronic Hardware (CEH) Systems.
  • Be an experienced leader and technically strong.
  • Experience in Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, Medical or other safety critical environment.
