Our client is supporting a Nuclear site in their development and decommissioning of facilities, systems, assets, and processes.
They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to design Infrastructure and Systems, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all mechanical systems, adhering to regulatory standards, and contributing to the smooth development and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
You will need Nuclear or Defence experience to be considered for this role.
Working Patterns and location – This is a hybrid role with 3-4 days on site per week. They operate a 9 day fortnight, with every other Friday off.
Key responsibilities
- Provide designs for the Facility Design Authority such that utilities, infrastructure, engineering processes, equipment and facilities.
- Ensure designs are compliant with legislation, standards and requirements associated with engineering design throughout the facility lifecycle.
- Create detailed designs and specifications for mechanical systems using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) specifically for nuclear applications.
- Develop and test prototypes to validate designs, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards.
- Conduct technical research to inform design and engineering methods.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring adherence to nuclear industry regulations.
- Liaise with clients, designers, engineers, and manufacturers to ensure coherence and quality, particularly in the context of nuclear safety.
- Prepare technical reports, design specifications documents, and operational manuals, ensuring compliance with nuclear regulatory standards.
- Perform computer simulations and experiments to virtually test and refine designs, focusing on nuclear-specific scenarios.
Skills & experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within the Nuclear industry.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- PE certification is advantageous; familiarity with Nuclear or Defence industry standards and regulations is essential.
- Attentive to detail, critically minded, and able to find creative solutions to technical problems.
- Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and other simulation tools.
- Knowledge of nuclear-specific manufacturing processes and materials.
- Working knowledge of legislation and standards applicable to engineering design.
