Marine Engineering SME – Submarine Nuclear Training (MESM)

Introduction

Our client is supporting the Royal Navy’s training transformation programme and is seeking an experienced Marine Engineering Submariner Subject Matter Expert (SME) to work closely with Navy stakeholders in the capture, validation and contextualisation of technical training data.

This role is ideally suited to a former CAT A or CAT B Nuclear Watchkeeper, preferably with an electrical bias, who can apply deep operational knowledge to support the development of modern, DSAT-aligned naval training solutions.

 

Working Patterns and location – This role is remote with occasional travel to Reading (expensed).

Key responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the customer, their agents and suppliers to identify technical data requirements for courseware and media development, including external data sources.
  • Conduct the upkeep, update and revalidation of course technical data to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Support courseware and media developers by contextualising technical content and training language, ensuring correct operational conditions and standards are applied.
  • Operate as part of the wider training design team responsible for the analysis, design, maintenance, review and production of DSAT documentation and processes.
  • Conduct interviews with subject matter experts to collate required data and participate in internal workshops to review and agree analytical findings.
  • Identify opportunities to better exploit existing training methods and media within the customer environment to enhance courseware development and delivery.
Skills & experience
  • Proven at sea experience as a Cat A or Cat B Nuclear watchkeeper.

 

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

 

  • PWR2 experience.
  • Electrical engineering background.
  • Forward Marine Engineering (Fwd ME) duties.
  • Experience in training requirements capture, design or delivery.
  • Experience as part of a Boat Build Crew.
  • Exposure to DE&S / SDA environments.
