Do you have hands-on Linux Systems Administration experience and experience of configuring, deploying physical, virtual and cloud server resources?
The Linux Infrastructure Engineer position is a hands-on Systems Administration role to support project delivery within the client. You will be working within the Infrastructure Operations Team and provide support with resolving incidents, implementing requests, and offering technical advice to project teams.
This role may suit an individual who has experience up to 3rd line Linux support and has proven experience troubleshooting server-based issues in a technical, scientific, commercial, or engineering environment.
There will be opportunity to develop scripts, methods, and processes to support all aspects of a technical computing environment in several countries around the world. The successful candidate will be someone who can be user facing, dynamic and analytical, contributing to solutions within a tight budget and demanding timescales.
Key responsibilities
- Resolving up to 3rd line infrastructure related Linux support calls.
- A point of escalation from global support teams.
- Managing user environments.
- Building / deploying bespoke Linux servers.
- Assist with managing the technology life cycle, deploying appropriate application versions and updates as required.
- Monitoring the use of storage, backup and replication environments.
- Automating and scripting business as usual administrative procedures.
- Being a technical resource available for project-based work.
- Conducting Continual Service Improvement through best practice employing new and innovative technologies.
Skills & experience
- Hands-on Linux Systems Administration in a wide variety of commercial environments.
- Linux Redhat technologies, building and troubleshooting infrastructure issues in a commercial environment.
- Other Linux flavours of interest include Debian (and derivatives) and SUSE.
- Configuring, deploying physical, virtual and cloud server resources.
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
- LDAP/ Kerberos based solutions.
- Windows server platform administration – within a commercial environment.
- Experience working within ITIL aligned Service Delivery organization.
- Worked in an engineering or consultancy environment.
- Web environments and technologies: Apache.
- Proven experience of delivering process efficiencies and improvements.
- Certification in Redhat technologies.
- Full driving license holder
