Lead Avionics Engineer

Introduction

As a Principal Avionics Engineer you will take the lead developing our client’s avionics systems capability and delivering cutting-edge consultancy into novel safety and security critical systems.  Due to an increase long-term demand from clients across multiple sectors from Aerospace to Nuclear Power they are looking for highly motivated and aspirational individuals to join their rapidly expanding team.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide avionics system consultancy at to company clients, who will be responsible for the development of high integrity avionics systems.
  • Support Win-work and bidding activities providing technical expertise and managing commercial and technical risk.
  • Develop avionics systems capability to meet market demand.
  • Provide advice on how to develop and verify such systems to ensure that they are meeting engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with client teams from the concept stage through to certification supporting and directing the development of the system artifacts at aircraft and subsystem level. This should include systems planning, architecture definition, requirements definition and management through to requirement verification.
Skills & experience
  • Be degree qualified in a relevant discipline and a Chartered Engineer.
  • Be a highly experienced avionics systems engineering background in the area of safety critical avionic systems development.
  • Be highly experienced in the leadership/management of systems teams throughout the systems engineering life cycle.
  • Have experience in the development and management of system requirements and usage of any associated tools.
  • Have experience in the application of ARP4754 or other equivalent system development processes and standards.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of and experience of Civil and/or Military regulatory certification, airworthiness and environmental requirements.
  • Have experience in providing independent advice, support and guidance on avionics systems development.
  • Have experience in developing pragmatic and novel solutions to complex problems, with an ability to “think outside of the box” where required.
  • Have excellent communication skills in English language, both written and verbal, with colleagues and clients.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • Detailed knowledge in one or more of the following avionics systems: Flight Control, Actuation Control, Engine/Motor Control, IMA, Electrical Power Distribution and Electrical Energy storage control, ground systems and test rigs.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: MBSE, system related human factors analyses, applying systems engineering to new and novel technologies.
  • Experience and Involvement in recognised industry working groups and/or standards development organisations.
