Infrastructure Engineer

Our Defence client are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join their team not only to lead, but also to shape the next generation of Infrastructure Engineers and mentor and coach more junior members.

You will be a technical expert, with a passion for coaching the next generation of engineers and nurturing a passion for IT.

This role is based full time on site in central Cheltenham.

• Upgrading and improving operating environments and creating repair strategies.
• Solving customer problems and designing technical infrastructure solutions.
• Installing and maintaining operating environments, both physical and virtual.
• Monitoring operating environments.
• Responding effectively and speedily to any problems.
• Maintaining a professional demeanour with clients and colleagues.
• Providing training and support for junior members of the team.
• Operating in a ‘line manager’ capacity, coaching and mentoring engineers.
• Ensuring operating environments stay safe and secure.
• Updating any software and hardware where necessary.
• Providing technical support and training for users.
• Documenting all reported malfunctions and actions taken in response.

• A minimum of 5 years as an Infrastructure Engineer, ideally with some project experience but that is not
• Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V).
• System Automation (Ansible, Python, PowerShell).
• System Administration (Microsoft, Linux).
• Networking (Cisco, Juniper, HP, Dell).
• Knowledge of system performance monitoring, reporting and dashboard generation.
• Experience taking the lead on IT project deliveries.
• Ideally some coaching/mentoring/leading experience, but if not, you must be passionate about learning!
• Cloud experience is a bonus.
