Information Security Consultant

Introduction

The Information Security Consultant will be responsible for providing domain expertise and guidance to the Software Team and the wider business across a range of opportunities.

They will also be responsible for Information Systems Security implementation for projects and wider business projects.

Key responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager the successful candidate will have responsibility and accountability for ensuring the optimal performance of systems in support of business projects and its sensitive data through the following key activities:
  • Prepare policies and RMADS for compliance for MOD and the company.
  • Providing domain expertise and guidance to the wider business across a range of opportunities (MOD, Security Services, Local Government and Education).
  • Providing guidance to the software engineers on security and IA requirements for software development.
  • Design and delivery of secure systems, policies, procedures and the implementation of these across projects.
  • Identify information risks that arise from potential solution architectures, design alternate solutions to mitigate those identified risks and ensure that alternate solutions or countermeasures mitigate the identified risks.
  • Production of documentation required to support software releases to the aviation environments.
  • Maintaining and developing software development environments used by the software engineers.
Skills & experience
  • Demonstrable experience evaluating systems and network devices and enterprise networks for IA/Security vulnerabilities
  • Experience of administration and the design of Microsoft Windows environments (2003 to 2019), including implementation and design of complex Windows group policies for secure environments
  • Experience of CISCO networking products
  • An able communicator in verbal, written and presentation forms.
  • A logical problem solver, who can operate effectively under project and time constraints.
  • Able to use initiative to identify opportunities to improve process and performance to enhance the service provided to the customer.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • CISSP or CISMP or CCNP or CESG CCP or IISP
  • Familiarity with and experience of working within an AGILE development environment. Experience of CI/CD and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Familiarity with JSP440 and MOD Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.
  • CCNA (Routing & Switching) or working towards CCNA.
  • Some familiarity with common network vulnerability/penetration testing tools including, but not limited to, Kali Linux tools, Nessus, and Nmap.
