Hardware Engineer

My client is looking for a Hardware Engineer to integrate within the current Hardware Engineering team to lead and manage successful hardware integration, hardware modifications, electrical engineering, and hardware baselines across a variety of submarine platforms. The Hardware Engineer will also update technical drawings and documentation to reflect the external customers’ requirements.

Key responsibilities
  • Own, manage and maintain programme specific processes and procedures
  • Control change management in the event of customer, supplier or internal design changes
  • Provide schedule estimates through impact assessments
  • Provide technical liaison between the design teams, customers, quality teams and suppliers
  • Generate, review and sign off hardware data packs, such as change notes or technical drawings
  • Liaise with customers on site and undertake modification, where necessary
  • Work within confined spaces to carry out wiring modifications, where necessary
  • Diagnose electrical engineering problems and make key stop/go decisions
  • Inspect electrical wiring and assemblies in a quality assured environment
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics and instructions
  • Use equipment, tools and measuring instruments associated with the manufacturing and testing of electrical assemblies
  • Support preparation and execution of Factory Acceptance Test procedures
  • Provide hardware preparation guidance for quality inspection, testing and qualification purposes
Skills & experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Hardware lead, Electrical lead or similar
  • Degree, HND, HNC or equivalent in Electrical/ Electronic engineering or a related discipline
  • Knowledge and experience of design and integration of PLC based control systems
  • Interpretation, management and implementation of customer change requests, with the understanding of change processes and configuration control procedures
  • Interpretation of customer technical specifications, Control and Instrumentation (C&I) design data, electrical schematics and Interface specifications
  • Experience of PLC based safety systems up to SIL2 in accordance with IEC 61508 or equivalent

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • Understanding and working knowledge of Defence programmes
  • Experience within Defence, Maritime, Oil & Gas, Aerospace or a similarly regulated industrial sector
  • Electrical safety testing experience
  • Understanding and working knowledge of electrical build standards
  • Knowledge and experience of meeting Defence Environmental standards, such as Def Stan 00-35, Def Stan 59-411, MIL-STD-461 or similar
