Introduction

Our client is currently recruiting for people to work in the Defence and Aerospace domains. Our client offers a range of independent and unbiased advice in engineering, technical and strategic advisory services to a wide breadth of markets and clients.

Our client offers ‘through-life’ support to the MoD and equipment manufacturers, and because they don’t manufacture anything theirselves, their clients can rely on them to offer independent and unbiased recommendations. The industry looks to them for advice on the latest issues and, with duty of care always high on the MoD’s agenda, which is driving this increasing demand.

The Role:

In your role, you'll enable organisations to achieve maximum benefits from digital transformation and innovative operations, often working within complex engineering programme environments. You'll work directly with clients, identifying, shaping and managing better delivery capabilities, improving their project performance and adding value to programme outcomes.

You'll be asked to lead your own projects or Agile delivery teams across the markets. You'll feel a great sense of pride supporting some of the company’s largest clients in the Defence sector across the MoD and its associated supply-chain.

Key responsibilities
  • We are looking to attract experienced candidates with proven experience in project delivery as a Project Manager (PM), ideally coming from an Engineering background with a good understanding of the engineer design product lifecycle.
  • You will have been engaged in delivery focused roles as a PM or Consultant PM with demonstrable skills and experience.
  • The roles are suitable for candidates who have a background in Project Management in complex engineering/manufacturing environments, ideally within the Defence sector. Working from within our Programme Delivery Practice, you will either work leading multi-disciplinary Teams delivering Engineering Design solutions for our clients or directly supporting our clients managing their projects on their behalf.
  • You will be a self-starter, alert to the needs of your client and other stakeholders and able to quickly build relationships essential to achieving success.
  • You will also be expected to make a contribution to Practice and Business development. This may include leading bid teams as well as developing new business propositions for existing clients or researching potential new markets.
Skills & experience
  •  Proven track record in a delivery environment with experience in project management.
  • Recognised Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM PMQ, MoR, MSP).
  • Experience and understanding of delivering multi-discipline Design / Infrastructure Engineering solutions ideally with an Engineering Qualification.
  • Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, work with ambiguity and operate in complex project environments.
  • Good commercial awareness and experience, understanding of Contracts and ability to effectively manage scope and change.
  • Experience of working in environments requiring high levels of assurance and/or security.
  • Risk and issue management experience.
  • Good knowledge of financial processes including project cost control and EVM reporting metrics.
  • Planning, monitoring and reporting, familiarity of scheduling with P6, Microsoft Project or JIRA experience desirable.
  • Experience of managing 3rd Party Suppliers is desirable.
  • Experience in the Defence sector and working the MOD is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Defence Investment Appraisal & Evaluation (JSP 507) or HM Treasury ‘Green Book’.
  • Business case development is desirable.
  • Based in the South of England, you will be expected to travel within the UK and potentially abroad as required.
