Our client is one of the Defence and Aerospace companies in the world and they are looking for an Engineering or Programme Manager with a background in managing software teams and programmes/projects across the whole lifecycle (planning, scheduling, delivery). Budgets will be up approx. £11 million.
Our client follows a DevOps lifecycle approach and an Agile development methodology utilising SAFe and SCRUM as core methods. Candidates ideally will have worked in an Agile environment and will have 5 direct reports and up to 25 indirect reports.
This role is primarily working from home but it will be expected that you will travel to offices quarterly for planning meetings and more if desired.
Key responsibilities
- Engineering leadership of a multi-disciplined team of technical experts, responsible for the technical development and delivery of the product and services to the customer and end users
- Generation of the Engineering development plan and then execution against company standards and aligned to the overall Programme’s needs from early bid phase through to final delivery
- Work package management including planning, tracking and reporting of key performance indicators for the work to be performed, working collaboratively with the Programme Engineering Manager, Programme Manager and rest of the Programme Team
- External technical first point of contact and liaison for key internal and external customer organisations, including regular reporting of status using agreed methods and measures
- Close liaison with Design Authority to ensure technical integrity of programmes.
- Management cost adherence to the programme budgets, using ‘earned value’ techniques
Skills & experience
- Experience in technical team leadership
- Experience of planning, estimating, and defining engineering tasks
- Proven track record of delivering solutions with a customer-first mind set
- Established background in engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Understanding of software development lifecycles and the impact these have on requirements management
The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:
- Experience in software engineering
- Experience of working in SAFe/Agile/Scrum/DevOp delivery model
- Awareness of TOGAF
- Experience with Atlassian suite, working with JIRA and Confluence
