Introduction

It is expected that this role has UK travel and potentially global travel to Canada.

Candidates will have experience of managing corporate infrastructure/networks for a global company of 30,000+ users.

Our client is currently seeking a Director of Network Services. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate resources globally to deliver initiatives related to the global network such as Software Defined Network, enterprise wireless infrastructure, firewalls and load balancers.

The primary purpose is to manage the Network function within the wider Infrastructure group.  Responsibility of the overall strategy, architecture and design of the Network services and products.  This includes the ownership of project delivery, service improvement and product lifecycle management.  This position will require the role holder to draw on a background of technical expertise in Networking and have a broad knowledge of IT Infrastructure. They will provide leadership and direction to a Network architecture and design team and external partners while partnering with business leaders to identify opportunities, requirements and solutions to support business growth, change, and development with the introduction of new technology solutions.

Other key skills for the role include planning, budgeting, coordination, reporting and execution to ensure the successful delivery of multiple project outcomes simultaneously. This role would be suited to an individual who has both a technical and project/programme delivery/management background within a large global (30,000+ user) corporate environment who is familiar with compressed timescales and pressure. They are looking for someone who can be dynamic and a real problem solver.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Network Services function to ensure a secure, reliable and performant service
  • Act as the subject matter expert on Network technology and services and provide technical leadership to the Network architects and engineers ensuring that designs are properly considered and documented.
  • Ownership and definition of the Network Services strategy and roadmap.
  • Accountable for the management of the Network Services global budget and capacity planning.
  • Working jointly with Procurement and Finance teams to manage supplier costs, and make recommendations for contract changes, renegotiations, and supplier replacements to continually improve value to the business.
  • Manage network supplier relationships, to ensure that the supplier portfolio meets the company’s needs. Conduct regular supplier reviews, evaluating and selecting new suppliers, and make recommendations for strategic supplier decisions.
  • Coordinating with individual Project Managers, Infrastructure team Managers, vendors, resources and procurement to ensure streamlined workstream completion.
  • Schedules and manages workstreams demonstrating a technical understanding of the projects being undertaken and the skills and capacity of the resources available.
  • Work closely with Security, to ensure that networks are maintained in a highly secure state, and that operating procedures and methods are best suited to maintain security of the company networks.
  • Working collaboratively with and providing functional care and guidance to the Network Operations teams.
  • Provide support and guidance as a technical lead role during major incidents; monitor functions and coordinate inter-team corrective actions; assists team members with problem resolution and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Management and synchronisation of interdependencies and delivery timelines across multiple separate projects.
  • Succinct and frequent reporting to Infrastructure Managers, Vice President - IT Infrastructure and other senior stakeholders.

 

Skills & experience
  • Significant experience working as a Technology Delivery Manager within a large organisation, applying infrastructure subject matter expertise within specific to deliver technology change is required for this role.
  • Experience of progressive experience in IT management with focus on network disciplines will have been gained over an extensive period
  • Significant experience in the following IT infrastructure concepts and solutions:
    • In depth knowledge of network architectures including , monitoring, security control, redundancy, and high availability for wired and wireless networks.
    • Strong experience of Software Defined Networking
    • Firewall and cloud firewall architecture knowledge (Checkpoint and ZScaler)
    • F5 load Balancers
    • Knowledge of WAN technologies, routing and optimisation
    • Highly available architectures, with resilient network design experience
    • Network performance management and capacity planning
    • Solid understanding of AWS and Azure virtual networking
    • Comprehensive experience of investigating and managing network related incidents
    • Strong knowledge of cyber-security and Network Security.
  • Ability to identify and prioritise work and ensure appropriate resources are deployed to complete it.
  • Experience of engaging with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of current and evolving IT technologies, architecture and delivery models.
  • Able to make and guide effective decisions on risk, explaining clearly how the decision has been reached. Ability to make decisions proportionate to the level of technical complexity and risk.
  • Knowledge of IT architecture, hardware and software.
