Our client are a working on some exciting advanced defence systems so are looking for Deign Engineers who can create tools and fixtures for these systems.
You will ideally be providing technical support to the design team to develop and implement industrial tools, jigs and fixtures. You will ideally need experience with Creo and Windchill.
Working Patterns and location – This role is hybrid with 2-3 days per week on site.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and create manufacturing tooling with NC machining or composite layup.
- Design and implement new tooling and fixtures requirements.
- Develop and manage detailed 3D models, designs, drawing and documents using CAD tools such as Creo and Windchill.
- Write clear technical instructions, and process instructions.
- Create and write up clear technical requirement specifications.
- Support overall production from early design stages to prototype design through to roll out.
- Assist with the Technical requirements of the relevant section of the Capital plan from definition to acceptance.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders and attend meetings.
- Support with the business process reviews and generation / update of relevant documentation.
Skills & experience
- A background in tooling design and experience gained from within a manufacturing environment.
- Broad manufacturing knowledge.
- Ability to design new tooling.
- Experience using CAD software (CREO) to generate 3D models and technical drawings.
- Experience using PDM software (Windchill) to manage document release and change.
- Ability to produce detailed drawings to BS8888.
- An understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances) with the ability to identify key characteristics and datum structures.
- Awareness of DFM/A and PFMEA principles and practical application.
- Capability to derive Technical Requirements for tooling from the product requirements.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Methodology, Quality toolset experience.
- Experience of preparing manufacturing BOM’s and routings and manufacturing process instructions.
