Defence Project Manager

Introduction

Our client is searching for a Project Manager with a strong technical background to work on Electronic warfare projects.

You will need to have experience working within research and development or product or product development, whilst leading a team of Project Managers.

Defence experience is essential for this role.

Working Patterns and location – This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week on site, with travel likely between the two sites.

Key responsibilities
  • Take a leading role in research and development projects.
  • Working within an electronic warfare environment.
  • Leading and managing junior Project Managers.
  • Build and actively manage project teams.
  • Consistently execute contracts fully to schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Create trusted and enduring relationships, building value for both the customer and client.
  • Plan for and successfully mobilise contracts.
  • Identify, prioritise and mitigate/manage risks and issues associated with bidding and delivery.
  • Bid with confidence; knowing schedule, cost and quality factors are fully considered.
  • Report/forecast accurately against key performance measures/indicators.
  • Continually improve delivery capability in parallel to bids and contracts.
  • Successfully deliver bids and contracts to target schedule, cost and quality levels.
  • Identify, prioritise and actively manage risks and issues associated with bids and live contracts.
  • Provide timely and accurate forecast information and project reporting.
  • Balance resources and risks to achieve revenue and cash targets in line with the business strategy and priorities.
Skills & experience

 

  • Experience within a complex Defence environment (supplier side).
  • Extensive knowledge of Portfolio Management.
  • Experience leading and delivering bids.
  • Appropriate Project Management qualifications (e.g., APM, PMI, Prince2).
  • SAFe/ Agile qualifications and knowledge of Scrum.
  • APM PMQ qualified or equivalent or working towards a qualification.
  • Experience in either products and product development or research and consultancy. 
  • Experience in delivering IT delivery projects using agile principles and methods.
