This role is supporting the Finance Manager by providing costs and pricing on rates for projects and programmes with the Ministry of Defence.
You will need to be confident speaking to senior stakeholders and negotiating commercial agreements where required.
Defence experience is desirable and experience negotiating rates/pricing is going to be required for this role.
Working Patterns: This is a remote role with the possibility of monthly meetings based in Essex.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver business advice and coordinated management of rates and government accounting for the Ministry of Defence.
- Negotiating commercial rate agreements.
- Support monthly and yearly rate cycles.
- Develop and calculate costing and pricing overhead rates.
- Develop and calculate average labour rates.
- Collaborate with the business to maximise recoverability of R&D and bid costs.
- Provide solutions such as new rate deck structures, or strategic pricing mechanisms.
- Create recovery forecasts and budgets for rates submissions.
- Create what-if rates scenarios.
- Create reporting for rates and functional control tower submissions.
- Manage reconciliations such as under/over recovery.
- Maintaining COGNOS functional forecast model.
- Maintain PowerBI dashboard and manage rate-related roll-outs (SAP, PMX, COGNOS).
- Ensure compliance with Defence standards.
- Support the management of relationships with the Ministry of Defence.
- Lead reporting, audit responses, and consultation submissions.
Skills & experience
- CIMA / ACCA / ACA qualified.
- Experience within a rates/pricing role before, ideally within the MOD.
- Excellent presentational skills and ability to work with senior stakeholders.
- Commercial insight and knowledge to negotiate rates with clients.
- Ability to own issues, and deliver effective outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff.
- Excellent systems skills, including SAP and Microsoft Office.
