Commodity Manager

Introduction

Our client is a leading global Defence, Aerospace and Manufacturing organisation who are looking for an experienced Commodity Manager to develop commodity and sourcing strategies.

The successful candidate will work on direct and indirect sourcing strategies and lead supplier assessments and developments.

This role will report into the Senior Manager and conducts Make vs Buy exercises, develops sourcing strategies and Business Cases, selects sources, negotiate and manage supplier agreements of various types within a medium to high complexity requirement.

This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with key offices in West London, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire and Fife, but they have more offices that they could consider as a candidate’s ‘base’ and a large proportion of the work could be done remotely. You will be expected to travel to Essex and Fife a few times per month and also other sites as required.

Please give me an example of a time where you have designed and developed your own commodity or sub-commodity strategy. You will need to have know how to create a commodity strategy (supplier perception matrix, data mining, spend profile etc.)

Key responsibilities
  • Leads or supports cross-functional teams in conducting Make v Buy exercises and developing and deploying commodity strategies across:
    • Direct and indirect spend commodities
    • Target Return on Investment (ROI)
    • Commodity risk management
    • Service levels
    • Approved/preferred suppliers
  • Liaises with suppliers at various middle management levels to drive improvement and resolve disputes.
  • Contributes to Business Area and Stakeholder Functional strategies via specific commodity strategies.
  • Manages and monitors supply chain and supports the drive for business growth, efficiency, profitability and intercompany relationships.
  • Engages with Stakeholder Functional leads regarding supplier bid and selection criteria.
  • Participates or leads in supplier assessments and supplier development activity teams, including the administration of appropriate due diligence activity.
  • Leverages commodity opportunities and synergies across the business.
  • Leverages supplier and industry capabilities in conjunction with Stakeholder functions to align functional strategies and identify gaps to link supplier capabilities with business requirements.
  • Leading the development of Commodity Agreements.
  • Leading the development and management of tenders.
Skills & experience
  • Experience in Subcontract Management, Procurement, Commodity and / or related field.
  • Would suit someone from a defence engineering, automation, manufacturing or aerospace background.
  • Experience of creating / developing Commodity strategies and turning them into operational reality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and ability to brief at mid/senior level.
