Introduction

Our client is a large consultancy working within Defence, and they are looking for a confident leader to manage commercial teams and deliver training to commercial and non-commercial staff.

 

They are keen to see people who have a strong understanding of the legal side surrounding drafting and negotiating contracts and terms and conditions, as well as strong people management skills.

 

You will be expected to train the small team of staff on the commercial side of things, as well as supporting the teams development and managing the workload.

 

This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week on site.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Leading and supporting a Commercial team of up to 10 Commercial Managers/Commercial Officers.
  • Developing and coaching junior team members and supporting their career growth.
  • Training non-commercial staff on commercial and procurement processes.
  • Reviewing and approving call-off contracts under a wide variety of framework types.
  • Drafting and agreement of sales and procurement agreements.
  • Analysis and negotiation of contract terms and conditions.
  • Analysis and agreement of NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, JVs.
  • Reviewing and approving proposals, prime and sub– contracts.
  • Commercial risk identification, mitigation, and management.
  • Providing commercial support throughout contract delivery.
  • Input to approvals processes, attendance and input at bid and governance meetings.

 

Skills & experience
  • Experience leading/managing Commercial teams.
  • A passion for leadership and a desire to want to grow junior team members.
  • Ideally a legal understanding and have worked in a very contractual paperwork heavy role, but they are willing to upskill on these skills in favour of the leadership.
  • Ability to analyse, interpret and draft contractual wording with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience of negotiating complex contract terms with suppliers and/or clients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.
  • Experience within a Defence/Government company is desirable.
