Cloud Application Engineer

Introduction

Our client is a specialised Consultancy Company, and they are looking for a Cloud Application Engineer with experience of Python & Java and Azure/AWS within Defence.

They are  looking for an experienced cloud application developer who can build, deploy, and support secure software systems in a government environment. They need someone who is comfortable working with modern cloud platforms, container technologies, and strict security requirements, and who can start quickly with existing clearance.

Working Patterns and location – Onsite possible chance of hybrid

Key responsibilities
  • Build, package, and deploy applications using container and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Helm.
  • Develop and maintain backend services and applications primarily using Java and Python, with occasional API work in other languages where required.
  • Implement and support secure authentication and access control using identity technologies like Keycloak, Red Hat SSO, OIDC, and SAML.
  • Deploy, configure, and run applications in AWS and Azure environments, ensuring they meet strict security and compliance standards.
  • Write well-tested, reliable code using test-driven or behaviour-driven development and follow modern agile delivery practices and tooling.
  • Monitor, support, and improve live systems by integrating logging, monitoring, and alerting tools, while collaborating effectively using source control and delivery platforms.

 

Skills & experience
  • Strong experience developing cloud-based applications using Java and/or Python.
  • Hands-on knowledge of containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and Helm.
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS and Azure, within secure or regulated environments.
  • Experience implementing identity, access, and security solutions using technologies like Keycloak, OIDC, or SAML.
  • Ability to build, test, deploy, and support reliable systems using modern development practices, monitoring tools, and source control.

Please note that the client has determined that the off-payroll working rules will apply to this assignment and therefore this contract will be run through an Umbrella Company. Income tax and primary national insurance contributions will be deducted at source from any payments made to the intermediary.
