Introduction

Our client is a prime contractor and major supplier to the U.K. Ministry of Defence and has developed strong capabilities in mission systems integration in defence, national security and commercial markets.

They are seeking buyers who have worked within the Commodity space and have experience reviewing proposals, fact finding and helping the Leads with negotiations.

You will be expected to understand how to raise RFQs, place Purchase Orders and raise contracts.

You will be required to take the Commodity strategy from the Commodity Leads and then turn them into operational reality!

You will have a local base (one of the following: London, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Fife or West Lothian) but the role is primarily remote, you will be expected to travel occasionally for meetings.

Key responsibilities
  • Supports cross-functional teams in conducting Make v Buy exercises and developing and deploying commodity buying strategies
  • Negotiating with suppliers on price and deliverables
  • Raising RFQs, proposals, tenders, Purchase Orders and contracts
  • Engages with Stakeholder Functional leads regarding supplier bid and selection criteria
  • Participates in supplier assessments and supplier development activity teams
  • Performs or supports cost and price analysis, develops negotiation strategies, and leads negotiations
  • Executes to customer requirements including government regulations, public law and policies and procedures
Skills & experience
  • Experience as a Buyer within a Commodity environment
  • Ideally have worked within manufacturing, engineering or defence procurement
  • A strategic mindset is required with proven demonstrated experience
  • Experience of taking Commodity strategies and turning them into operational reality
  • Create and execute various types of Supplier / teaming / framework agreements
  • Experience of running supplier competitions
  • Experience of developing and managing Subcontractor Relationships
