Business Development Manager (Defence)

Introduction

Our client is a Software and Engineering Solutions company within the Defence and National Security space, and they are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to support to lead the identification and qualification of new growth opportunities, as well as the development and execution of capture strategies.

You will need experience within Defence and/or National Security, as well as ‘solutions’ sales, ideally software or cyber services.

Working Patterns: This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week on site and up to 25% travel between customer sites.

Key responsibilities
  • Proactively identify, qualify, develop, and execute capture strategies to secure new business in Defence and National Security.
  • Qualify pursuits, perform market/competitor analysis and assess risks.
  • Lead Business Development and Capture Management for assigned opportunities, ensuring compliance with internal gate review processes.
  • Collaborate across functions to design and deliver compelling, cost-effective capture plan.
  • Work with Business Operations to manage resource planning and expenditure.
  • Build business cases to justify investments that enhance win probability, maximise returns, and secure sustainable growth.
  • Establish and strengthen collaborations with industrial partners to improve competitiveness and increase win rates.
  • Contribute to regular pipeline reviews, providing insights and recommendations for new business development.
Skills & experience
  • Solution/Service sales within Defence and/or National Security (wider public sector might be considered).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in solutions/service/bespoke product business development.
  • Demonstrable experience identifying, qualifying and then securing new business opportunities.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute successful and compelling capture plans.
  • Specific Capture training such as Shipley Associates Business Development is preferred.
