Our client’s safety-critical software and C&I team is a thriving area providing consultancy and engineering services to a range of clients in industries such as Nuclear, Defence, Rail, Aerospace and C&I. Their team works across critical and engineering projects at the cutting edge of technology and addresses all stages of the system development lifecycle.

Due to strong growth, particularly in the nuclear sector, they are looking to expand their safety-critical software and EC&I team in response to client demand. Our client recognises that the specialist technical nature of these services requires an informed and focussed approach to business development and bidding.

They require a Business Development Manager for Safety Critical Software and C&I Services. The role is to: contribute to identification of opportunities; develop bidding strategies and lead bid development; turn opportunities into contracted work; build and maintain excellent, sustainable client relationships; and help shape the future capabilities that they will require to maintain business success and growth.

Key responsibilities
  • Take on a leading role in the growth of our Safety Critical Software and Control and Instrumentation business.
  • Liaise between company technical leads and Account Managers to identify business growth opportunities.
  • Engage with clients to understand their needs and challenges and to develop successful working relationships.
  • Lead and support the development of winning bids for established and new clients.
  • Identify where the company’s current technical capability can be exploited to deliver increased business and inform how they should develop future capabilities to meeting client future needs.
Skills & experience
  • A proven track record of successful client relationship management experience.
  • Able to understand client’s challenges, identify where the company has relevant capability to solve those challenges and support the client to develop statements of requirements where necessary.
  • Able to prepare winning bids.
  • Able to liaise between clients, and the company technical delivery and business leads, balancing business priorities.
  • Good understanding of safety software and/or C&I systems development lifecycle, probably gained through a background in technical delivery.
  • Comfortable talking to clients in technical terms.
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal and networking skills.

The client would also like to see some of the below, but this is not essential:

  • An established network to help to grow our business.
  • Prior experience in a consultancy environment.
