Baggage Engineer

Introduction

Our client are working at Stansted airport to design and maintain baggage handling systems. You will be ensuring baggage handling systems operate seamlessly whilst coordinating with architects, airport planners and security agencies.

The ideal candidate will have previous airport experience or working within a live operational environment.

Working Patterns and location – This role is based predominantly on site at Stansted Airport. There may be a few days of flexible working.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting the delivery of baggage handling systems within Stansted airport.
  • Working across the full lifecycle to final delivery ensuring engineering integrity and operational readiness.
  • Reviewing capacity models to ensure systems are designed to meet future demand.
  • Supporting technical assurance and ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Monitor progress, risk and issues across the baggage workstream, escalating any concerns when necessary.
  • Programming, testing and optimising PLC’s, sensors and system controls.
  • Ensuring the systems and technology are linked to airline baggage tracking.
  • Working alongside contractors and vendors during the process of upgrades and expansions, holding excellent stakeholder management relationships.
Skills & experience
  • Proven experience in baggage system design and delivery, preferably within a single terminal operation.
  • They should be confident in interpreting and challenging capacity modelling and operational data, with excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with airport infrastructure projects and working in live operational environments.
